This is a deeper dive into practical applications of the concept of Form & Meaning.
β±οΈ 180 minutes (Can be divided into two sessions)
ποΈ This guide does not give you exact words to say. We write ideas to help trainers understand the activities and pictures. You can use these ideas in your training. You can also create your own materials.
π¬ Translators will learn how to study a passage. They will make sure they understand what the original author meant. This will help them make the best translation choices for a Bible in their language. You need to choose Open Bible Stories, a book of the Bible, or a set of passages. The translators will use these for practice during this training.
π€ These sessions are advanced. They help translators get ready for hard translation questions. Translators should already know how to understand and write text before they start this training.
π£οΈ Groups will talk together to solve practice translation problems.
βTranslators must answer these important questions: What did the original author mean? Will your translation say something wrong? How much can you change the words to make the meaning clear?
<aside>
π― Why is this important? Translation teams need to know the right way to translate difficult passages. Some passages might be misunderstood by people in their culture. If translation teams do not know how to handle these passages, they will:
Make translations that copy the original word order. These translations are hard to understand or
Make translations that say the wrong thing. These translations are not correct.

Check if the trainers have already done the examples from "Form and Meaning: DO." If they have not done them yet, complete them now. This will help you introduce and review the main ideas. If they already did them in an earlier training session, show the slides and let them teach the material. Move quickly through this section. It should be review for the trainers.
